Oh, Christmas Tree

The King family is on the ball this holiday season!
We already have our house decorated (even though we don't have a lot to put up anyway) and bought our Christmas tree this weekend too.  We are in the Christmas spirit... that's for sure!

I think we are finally realizing that if we want a real Christmas tree in the south (or at least in North Myrtle Beach) you have to grab one quickly.  A few years ago, we couldn't find any decent looking real trees anywhere at about 2 weeks before Christmas.  Oh and... they sell Christmas trees at grocery stores here too... Thanks Kroger for our tree this year!

Old Wives' Tales

Chinese Gender Chart-

Dangling a pendant over mother's belly-
If it moves in a circular motion it’s a girl. If it moves in a side to side motion it’s a boy.

Morning Sickness indicator-
If you have a lot of morning sickness it’s a girl, if you don’t have a lot of morning sickness it’s a boy.

If you crave sweet foods it’s a girl, if you crave salty it’s a boy.

The Baby Whisperer/Dreamer-
1 BOY dream & 1 GIRL dream

Fetal Heart rate-
If the heartbeat is on the slower side it's a boy and if it's on the faster side it's a girl.

1- GIRL  4- BOY  1- TIE

We'll see how accurate these old wives' tales really are in about 9 weeks!

week 10

How far along? double digits- 10 weeks

Size of Baby? a kumquat... whatever that is.
Or some say... a prune

Maternity Clothes? nothing yet.  I walked around with my jeans unbuttoned for half the day yesterday though.  Last weekend, I bought myself a beband.  I haven't had to use it yet.

Stretch Marks? still none

Gender? we don't know yet, but I'm getting anxious.  There are 8 votes for a boy and 6 votes for a girl right now.

Movement?  I don't feel anything yet, but that baby is moving around for sure!  When we got an ultrasound Wednesday, he/she was kickin' and movin' his/her little arms and legs like crazy!  I can't wait to feel that!

Sleep? not sleeping well...  I'm trying to remember to sleep on my side and it's been hard.  I am also waking up to go to the bathroom 3, sometimes 4, times a night.

Food Cravings? I'm not sure if it's pregnancy related, but last weekend I craved veggies and dip.  Normally when I buy vegetables, they go to waste.  But this time, I'm almost done with the big bowl I started on Saturday.

What I Miss? nothing really, but if I had to pick one thing it would be a good night sleep

Symptoms? still tired and I think I'm starting to feel things stretch

Best Moment Last Week? two things. 1. getting to see our baby again on the ultrasound!  Insurance companies should really let you see your baby more than 2 times a pregnancy... it's amazing!  2.  visiting a daycare right down the street.  We know it's early, but it's a popular one and they say you have to get on the list early.  Well, we were 30 weeks early ;)

Looking Forward to? maybe, just maybe starting to show a little bit.

giving thanks

The past few days when I'm laying in bed at night and can't fall asleep I think about all the things I'm thankful for...

Our growing baby-
Before we even started trying, I wasn't too optimistic that it would happen quickly.  Kirby tried to steer me away from those negative thoughts, but they always seemed to creep back up.  It literally happened the first time we tried though... and I'm thankful for that.

I think about it often, but not sure I say it enough.
I can't imagine life without him.

All of our family live elsewhere (mostly Maryland & Ohio)... and even though we aren't spending Thanksgiving with them, we are thankful for them.  Some of them have been with us through some of our toughest times.  Some of them have been there through our celebrations.  I'm especially thankful for reconnecting with some of my family throughout the past few years.

Here or there... we are thankful for all the special friendships in our lives.

Our health
In a few months Kirby will enter his 40's and I'll be entering my 30's.  We are thankful to have good health.  As I've said before, Kirby is going to keep me young and with that, hopefully healthy too ;)

A job
Especially with the economy like it is, we are both thankful for our jobs.  We had budget cuts a few years ago where teaching positions were cut, but thankfully we made it through.  And with a teaching job comes some long weekends like this one.  We are thankful for our 5 day weekend to celebrate and relax!

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!  No matter who you celebrate with, family or friends, remember to give thanks! :)

growing up so quickly!

Do you know what I realized the other day and forgot to blog about? ...gasp!
Our baby is now to the fetus stage!
That's a big deal.  He/She is growing up so quickly!
I can't believe we've come to our first of many milestones!
Now I'm looking forward to finding out whether we are having a boy or a girl.

What do you think?
I added a little poll at the top right hand side of the blog so you can vote.
I think it'll be interesting.

truth is...

some days I don't have anything to blog about and I'm tired.
So I decided to stop the challenge I started at the beginning of the year.  It was to post 365 days worth of pictures.  My intentions were to take pictures to help improve my photography skills (or maybe lack of... haha) but it kinda fizzled out and I find myself posting about nonsense sometimes.
Therefore, I'll stop.

I still plan on posting often, as I want to continue documenting things... especially as we go through our pregnancy journey.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

first baby dream

I had my first baby gender dream last night!
When I woke up and realized it, I tried to stay awake and remember every bit of it... unfortunately, I didn't.  I do remember that we had a little boy.  Ironically, that's what my friend dreamed the other night too.  Maybe it's a sign?!  Whether it's right or wrong... we'll see!

week 9

How far along? 9 weeks- almost double digits!

Size of Baby? an olive

Maternity Clothes? Nope.  My clothes are getting tighter though... I wore leggings today and it felt so much better!

Weight Gain? I should have found out today, but the doctor had an emergency so our appointment was canceled.

Stretch Marks? no :)

Gender? boy?? girl??  My friend, Gina, said she had a dream we had a boy.  We'll see???

Movement? too soon, but can't wait!

Sleep? still getting up to go to the bathroom, but sleeping better in between

Food Cravings? still bad food...

What I Miss? nothing really

Symptoms? tired and a little morning sickness still, but nothing I'd complain about!

Best Moment Last Week? getting another week closer to showing.  Come on, doesn't every first time pregnant lady want to show ;)

Looking Forward to? our appointment we rescheduled for next Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.

I made something on Pinterest!

I've been "pinning" like crazy on Pinterest but have actually only done a few of those pins.
Here are a couple from this weekend.

hard workin' man

Kirby worked on the FJ all weekend.  He bought a lift kit, some bigger wheels and tires and put them on his new toy.  He worked until about 11:30 Saturday night and almost all afternoon on Sunday.  He's happy with the results...

Buuuut....He's not completely finished yet... more to come later as new parts arrive...

Go Blue! Go Yellow!

Here are a few more pictures from Thursday night's PTO staff vs. staff football game fundraiser.

week 8

This is a few days late and you don't see any difference, but I still wanted to post it for our records.

How far along? 8 weeks in this picture

Size of Baby? 5/8 of an inch long

Maternity Clothes? I'm not wearing any yet but Jane bought me my first 2 maternity shirts.

Weight Gain? still not sure

Stretch Marks? no... I'm not sure if it's even possible yet, but I feel like my skin is doing something because it seems to itch.
Gender? no gender yet, but we've got names though.  I'll probably post about the names in a few weeks.

Movement? no, but some of my friends from school have recently felt some movement.... it makes me even more excited for it to happen to me!

Sleep? Several trips to the bathroom and switching from left side to right side makes for a choppy night of sleep.
Food Cravings? bad food... but I guess that hasn't changed from when I wasn't pregnant... haha ;)

What I Miss? sometimes soda

Symptoms? sleepiness for sure.  Just last weekend I started to get some morning sickness, but I'm not throwing up so I'm thankful for that.

Best Moment Last Week? DEFINITELY hearing/seeing the heartbeat!

Looking Forward to? our appointment on Wednesday... I hope we get to see the baby again

football fundriser

NMBP's PTO put together a staff vs. staff football game tonight.  I think we had a good turnout!  The rain stayed away for the most part and it wasn't too cold either.  This is the first time I couldn't participate in a fundraiser sporting event at NMBP.... but I wouldn't change it! ;)  Kirby was one of the refs as usual.

surf cam...

Kirby here... thought I'd give the mom-to-be a day off from blogging and exercise my 1% ownership rights of the blog :)  I made an interesting discovery last night... received a couple phone calls and voicemails from a friend telling me he was watching me surf on a live beach webcam.  Ironically, I'm the one who found the webcam a few months ago online and shared it with him.  It turns out this particular cam is basically down the street from us (where Anna and I go to the beach and I surf all the time).  I check the surf conditions on this cam a few times a day, but had no idea that's where it was.  I thought it was a few miles away up in Cherry Grove...

always a project

I used to think I'd keep Kirby young (being I'm 10 years younger than him) but I'm starting to realize he's probably going to keep me young.

He's always doing something.... some kind of project.  I love the enthusiasm and hard work he puts into everything he does.  I can only hope our son or daughter has those same qualities!

new shirts for me :)

My sweet friend, Jane, bought me my first maternity shirts!  Last year, she reminded me that she wanted to be the first one to buy me some maternity clothes.  And she was...  she brought these to school for me today.  She knows me well too... simple & solid.... that's me.
Thanks Jane!

Hopefully after conferences tomorrow, I'll post about what Kirby's been up to...
He's always got himself into some sort of project... and I love it :)

sleep won

Yes, it was blogging vs. sleep last night... and around 6:30pm, sleep won.
I slept for about 11 hours and I am yawning while writing this post this morning.  I have so much house work and school work to do today, I hope the 11 hours was enough to get me through.

Friday, November 4, 2011

thank you

So thankful for the rain I woke up to and the rain I came home from school to...
Great way to start the weekend!

Thursday, November 3, 2011

I debated on what to title this post, since anything with the word "two" or "pair" or "double" would possibly make people think we are having twins.... but we aren't.

But I did get 2 of the same exact gifts on the same exact day!  One from my friend Gina and one from my friend back in Ohio, Rachel.  (maybe this is a sign we are having twins...ha)  I am so thankful to both of them!  The book looks like a lot of fun to fill out and a great way to document the pregnancy!  I'm going to return one for another baby/pregnancy book though... any suggestions?

I'm anxious to get started on "The Belly Book" weekend!
Thanks girls :)

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

2 1/2 weeks later... I can finally move from 6 weeks to 7 weeks!

How far along? finally 7 weeks...
When we first found out we were pregnant, I thought I had figured out the weeks.  Then we went to the doctor the first time, and he wasn't sure how far along we were yet, but knew we weren't as far along as we thought.  I figured right about 6 weeks...wrong.   When we went back last week, we got an official (which I know it can change) due date and found we were 6 weeks 1 day.  So thankful to finally be past week 6 now!

Size of Baby? Today he/she is officially a blueberry

Maternity Clothes? nope.  Things are tighter though...

Weight Gain? not sure

Stretch Marks? no :)  I'm keeping up with drinking lots of water and using the lotion.

Gender?  Won't know for awhile, but we have names for either one!

Movement?  Not yet

Sleep?  Besides several trips to the bathroom, I've been sleeping much better. Probably because I've been exhausted lately!

Food Cravings? nothing specific, but I tend to want a lot of salty things... especially pickles

What I Miss? I miss things here and there (mostly food related) but honestly, I'm so thankful and happy we are pregnant, I don't miss anything that much.

Symptoms?  sleepiness, acne...

Best Moment Last Week? DEFINITELY hearing/seeing the heartbeat!

Looking Forward to? Starting to use "The Belly Book" I got as a gift

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

He/She is only the size of a  lentil or sweet pea (growing to the size of a blueberry tomorrow), but it's already true.
