Happy Blogiversary (5 days late)

I wanted to post about this a few days ago, but lost track of the date...I guess it's all this free time we've got on our hands. :)

Anyway...June 8, 2008, we started our "A Pair of Kings" blog.  It started off as a way to keep our friends and family (back in Ohio and Maryland) up-to-date about the wedding planning process.  After the wedding, it turned into a place Kirby and I both, documented about different events going on in our lives.  Now, as you probably read in this post, Kirby is currently only 1% owner of the blog now and I do most of the posting myself.  I also post something every.single.day.  Many people thought I was crazy when I started this challenge in the beginning of the year, but I'm enjoying it!  I actually love writing now, I've been able to practice using my camera, and have "met" several great women through blogging.  I've even recruited other friends to join the blogging world now too.

Krunch Kids 2011
We were excited for our first day of camp... but I think these boys were even more excited.  They were waiting patiently when we pulled up!

The kids had a great time today. We introduced the program, learned and played lots of games, and got a workout too!  It was a perfect way to start things off and we're looking forward to a fun summer.

What's the difference...

between these two people?

10 more years of cooking experience.  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

So let me tell you the story.  Today I decided I wanted to play "Betty Crocker" and cook us a homemade dinner and dessert.  And I should tell you, one recipe would have been enough for me to tackle... but I wanted to try two recipes.  Both, brand new...

Yeah, you can imagine how the story goes.

Well, I started off working on the Chicken Manicotti (while Kirby was cooking the chicken on the grill) and then while I waited for the chicken, I started working on the Black Bottom Cupcakes.  (shouldn't have done that)  So at this point, I was working on 2 brand new recipes at the same time.  Then this happened...

-I forgot the egg in the cupcake batter
-I broke a lot of the manicotti shells while they were boiling
-I burnt the bottom of the saucepan while making the cheese sauce

(In steps Kirby... to help his frustrated, not so "Betty Crocker" wife.)

-Kirby had to cut up the chicken, because I was working on fixing my sauce mess
-Kirby had to take over making the sauce
-I couldn't decide if the cupcakes were finished and put them back in the oven several times
-I managed to break all the other unbroken shells while stuffing them
-I noticed the manicotti recipe called for 2 baking dishes (which I didn't think we had)
-I realized we did have another baking dish after we started making it work with just one

Bottom line though: Dinner and dessert were great
(Even if I did need Kirby's assistance and cooking expertise.)

I was going to post about our 3 year Blogiversary (which was actually June 8th), but I'll do that tomorrow instead.  Stay tuned ;)

Heaven is for Real

I finished this book up a few weeks ago on the beach and LOVED it!  I'm glad I had my sunglasses on because I shed quite a few tears.  (It's not because I'm Ms. Emotional either...anyone would cry)  I highly recommend it!
Now I'm ready for another.

Can you help me out?
What books do you recommend?

This is what we did today.

Cleaned & cooked

Worked in the yard

Relaxed at the beach

With a few other things in between.
Repeat tomorrow.

Go Steelers!

A few weeks ago, some girls from school gave Terra a Steelers themed baby shower.  It was perfect for the Bodkins' family and filled with football field cupcakes, tailgate food, blowup Steelers player, and lots of yellow/gold and black.

We are all looking forward to meeting baby Bodkins in September!  He sure is going to have a lot of love from his school family!

WILW

I'm excited for my first, summer WILW post with Jamie
I can actually sit down and take some time to reflect about what I'm loving!

I'm loving... that summer is here!

I'm loving... we start Krunch Kids on Monday.  We actually did the program for 2 days as part of "fitness week" for the First Baptist Summer Program this week.  The kids had a great time and really got a workout!

I'm loving... that in a few short months we plan on adding to our family.  It's so close, yet so far away!  Tomorrow I begin taking better care of myself so I can be ready and healthy for when the time comes.  I'll be switching out a soda a day for a vitamin a day, trying to get more exercise, and cutting out some bad food.

I'm loving... being able to relax around the house with my husband.  It's great that we are both teachers and can enjoy summer together!

revin' up for summer

It's summer vacation, so Kirby's been getting the golf cart ready for beach season!  A few weekends ago, he installed a new turbo speed motor (ok, really... it only goes 17 mph.  But hey, that's up from the 12 mph factory top speed, so it's turbo to us).  Today we had an unexpected break on our homemade, rigged up convertible top, so Kirby took care of the break and gave the top a fresh paint job too.

We are ready for more trips to the beach now!
