Kaden's 1st Halloween

Holidays are so much more fun now!  We planned our costumes and prepared for trick or treating for several weeks before the big event... and it went just as expected.

Lots of preparation, not much awake time, and a lot of pictures to capture the memories!

Once all 3 of us were dressed (and fed too), we made it out of the house for a little trick or treating around the neighborhood.  Being that our little superhero doesn't sleep very much at daycare, we were prepared for the challenge of a tired, fussy baby.  Not the case though.  He enjoyed the short ride to a few houses and by the 3rd house, he was out.  Asleep.  Too much excitement I guess...

{his very first house for trick or treating- Thanks Powalie family!}

{he was starting to fade quickly}

{his friend, Daveena}

It's hard being a superhero.

this weekend we...

1. Sat around and watched the weather channel- both of our families are in the path of Sandy.  Kirby's mom is expecting 1-2inches of snow and the school district we taught at in Maryland already cancelled school for tomorrow!

2. Played with this smilin' (but sick) baby

3. Tried rice cereal again- I wouldn't say he "liked" it but he ate several more bites than the first time.  Progress.

4. Our family of 3 Dad carved our first pumpkin

roll over, roll over

He surprises us everyday!  Last Wednesday night (10/24), Kaden finally did what we kept saying was going to happen any day.... he rolled over from his back to his belly!

I saw him start to do it, so I pushed him back over (come on... I didn't want to miss the photo/video opportunity and plus dad wasn't home, so I wanted to be sure I got it on video for him) and ran to get all the electronics.  When I came back, he was already trying to roll over again.  I barely had time to click on the video camera, so I missed the very beginning (okay... almost the whole thing).

I was so proud, so of course I wanted to see him do it again and again!

first time with rice cereal

Mr. Kaden... you gave us some good laughs the first time you tried rice cereal!  You couldn't tell us what you thought of the whole experience, but your face sure did tell us!

another trip to the ER...

Since moving to the south, my husband has made it a habit of getting injured while doing some of his favorite hobbies.  A few years ago he broke some ribs surfing.  Not much later he broke his collar bone and arm longboarding.  So, last Tuesday I wasn't surprised hearing him walk through the house in his wetsuit, telling me not to worry, but he needs to go to the ER to get his face stitched up.  After trying to get covered up by a wave, his surfboard snapped back and gashed his face from the corner of his nose (he said he felt it "flapping").  I wanted to take him to the ER, but he said no since Kaden was sleeping and didn't want to disturb him.  He drove himself with a wadded up piece of toilet paper soaking up the blood.  When I asked later, he admitted to being light-headed while driving to the hospital from losing blood earlier.  The gash went almost all the way through to the inside.  Luckily, no nerve damage.  Seven stitches later, he was good as new.  Well, almost.  At least the ER doctor did a great job lining things back up!

Stitch Removal 101: who needs a doctor when a pair of scissors and tweezers will do?  (hmmm... I think he's done this before)...

We laughed and laughed!  It didn't phase him at all though.
