Kaden's first SNOW!

Saturday, February 16 was Kaden's first snow!  He was in bed before it even started, so I was a little bummed out.  But to our surprise, it was still on the ground when we woke up Sunday morning!  So we all got bundled up and went outside to experience Kaden's first snow.  We weren't prepared with the right winter clothing (there isn't much need for snow boots and ski jackets in South Carolina), so we only stayed out long enough to snap a few pictures.

I'm pretty sure I was a little way more excited than Kaden-

"What's all the excitement about?  You're going to take me outside to see what?"

"Okay Mama, I see it.  Let's go back inside."

Ripley's Family Fun Run

Kirby's school participates in the Ripley's Family Fun Run in Myrtle Beach (part of the Myrtle Beach Marathon festivities) each year.  We were excited to have our family participate!  Kaden had a great time looking around and taking in all the new people and places around him.

After the race, we were invited to eat some pizza and walk through Ripley's Aquarium.  As we waited our turn to enter back in the Aquarium, I was trying to think about how I was going to take pictures inside.  I have 2 lenses in addition to my kit lens, but still don't feel comfortable taking my setting off "auto" yet.  So I asked a lady next to me (who had a nice camera with a "fancy" flash) to give me some tips for taking pictures inside.  She helped me out (even though we didn't walk through because our little guy was too tired) and then snapped a picture of our family together!  I love the in-the-moment look of the photo and Kaden's happy face.

I can't believe that next year Kaden will be able to walk/run the race with us!

8 months- WHOA!

We are getting closer to the 1 year mark and we just can't believe it!  It seems like just yesterday we were bringing him home asking each other "So.... what do we do now?" as we stared at him laying in his crib for the first time.  Now, 8 months later, we are still figuring this parenting thing out... as our little baby is growing into a big boy!

health

We started the month off with a mess of sicknesses, but the past 2 weeks (and hopefully many more) have been much better.  He still battles congestion and cough at night.  We've been using a humidifier for awhile now, but just stopped last weekend because it hasn't seemed to help much.  We also started giving him an allergy medicine (per the doctor's orders) to see if that helped clear some of it up and it really hasn't either.  So... we just don't know what to do.

sleep

Nothing new in the sleep department.  Still taking about 2 naps at school, usually around 30 minutes to 2 hours total.  He'll take another 30 minute to an hour nap when he gets home and then he'll go to bed around 7:00.  He's been waking up between 11 and 2 most nights and then again around 5-5:30ish.  He'll drink 5oz and then go straight back to bed.  He's usually up for the day between 5:30 and 6:30.  It's not the best schedule... and yes, he's a grouch when he's tired, but we've started to just get used to it (but wouldn't mind if it got better soon.. ha).

sizes

He's all over the place.  It depends on what it is and where it's from.  He's in size 3 diapers during the day and I think I'm going to try size 4 for the nighttime.

diet

He's upgraded to a bigger bottle this month.  He started finishing bottles (5oz) and was getting angry because there was nothing left.  We were still using the Medela 5oz bottles, so we had to try something new.  It didn't take too long for him to get used to the new ones and now he chugs it down like a champ.  The flow is a bit faster than he's used to, so he usually ends up with a chin full of milk...

likes
-all his toys, but more so... the things that aren't really "toys"

dislikes
-being in confined spaces- see picture below.  By the end of our little photo shoot (which wasn't really the end for me, as I didn't get all the shots I wanted) he had rolled over and was trying to figure out how to get out of the basket.  I have a feeling we are in for some fun/interesting times with this independent boy.

-He started having a little separation anxiety this month.   Most of the time it's in the evenings when he gets home from daycare.  It's cute, but makes it hard to do anything around the house.

things to remember
1.  pointing- not sure where he got this from, but he loves sticking up his pointer finger

2. crawling- video here

3. going from sitting, up to his belly

4. says- mama, dada, baba, vava, nana and lots of other noises words... oh, and a lot of high pitched screeches

5. Looks like our boy has brown eyes... we'll see if they change some more.

Happy Birthday Andrew

Our friend, Andrew, celebrated his 40th birthday this past Monday and his wife threw him a surprise party.  Actually... it was a whole day of surprises.  It ended at a local restaurant with all his family and friends.

The last surprise, skydiving, was actually supposed to be the first surprise that day, but because of the weather (we just experienced the 2013 "blizzard" in Myrtle Beach that weekend) he has to try another day. They wrote him a letter to open once he got to dinner to explain about the gift. How awesome! Can you imagine? I know Kirby can... he's ready to do the same thing!

Happy Birthday Andrew!

love from my Aunt and cousin

Last weekend, Kirby's sister and niece came into town for a quick weekend visit.  It was so nice to see them and let them spend time with Kaden.  They spoiled him with tons of gifts and lots of hugs and kisses too.  I'm so glad they are close enough to visit us a couple times a year!

We hope to see them again in March when one of our nephews comes to town for a baseball tournament.  Thanks again for the visit guys.  We love you!

Someone is figuring out how to get around this place!

He's not quite a pro, but he's working really hard at it.

valentine's day 2013- Kaden's first

Mama got a new lens for her camera and wanted to try it out, so one evening Kirby helped me and we had a little mini photo shoot.  We were able to get several great shots of our smiley little guy.

Gosh....he brings so much love into our lives!

The day before Valentine's Day, Kaden surprised me with a card and dinner at Carrabba's.
It was a great night with my 2 boys!

Father/Son time

These boys love each other so much!  I can see a lot of father/son moments in the future!

Dad got Kaden a hat just like his... he loves it!

Playin' ball with Dad- even though he's more into eating the ball than catching it.

Learning the guitar-  They are actually playin' the guitar right now as I write.  I think Kaden's trying to be the lead singer of the band ;)

Way to Go Ravens!

Kaden was gearing up for the superbowl on Sunday by practicing his throwing with Dad. Kirby's from Maryland, so we cheered the Ravens to a win!
