Moment of Silence

Lately, I have really been getting into the "blogging world'. I've found a lot of blogs of other recently married women who I enjoy reading about. A few weeks ago I came across Megan's Blog. When I began reading the blog, Megan and her husband had just had their first baby boy, Cohen. I read the updates everyday as Megan would update her friends, family, and many other unknown bloggers. You wouldn't believe the love, support and prayers they have received through the blogging world. People who have never met this family, such as myself, praying for them. Sadly though, they lost baby Cohen after only 11 days. The day Cohen went to heaven, there were 169 comments left for them on their blog! It amazes me all the support!

So today everyone is showing their continued support even more! Megan and her husband will be holding Cohen’s memorial service today. The moment of silence is an opportunity for Megan’s blog community to stand behind her and support her on this difficult day.

a little bit of this...and a little bit of that

Things around here have been busy with buying another car! Yes, you heard right...

Kirby decided awhile back he was interested in selling his Elise and buying a Lotus Exige. Of course he talked with me and checked out the finances...and then started seriously looking. He actually found the "perfect" one in Texas a few weeks ago, but it was bought out from under his nose at the very last minute.

Needless to say, he was very bummed about it. After I dragged him to a flea market to look for a woven basket to put throws in, we drowned in our sorrows over dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. As we were sitting at dinner, I looked out the window and noticed a yellow car (the Exige in Texas was yellow), and I jokingly told him that was a sign, and when we got home he'd find another one online (even though he'd already been searching a few times each day for the past few months). And then, just a few moments after that "sign", his jaw dropped looking out the window the opposite way. What does he see? Yep, an Exige stopped at a traffic light on HWY-17. Now that was a sign.

As soon as he got home he searched again and found one in California that was identical to the one in Texas. Even though it was far away, he called the dealership to inquire, and within minutes talked them down a good chunk of money and came to a verbal agreement. He contacted a fellow Lotus owner in California to inspect the car for him, and everything fell into place after that. Hopefully if things go as planned, the purchase will be finalized Monday and shipped here about a week later :) Here is what it'll look like...

Even though I'm super excited about the car, I'm not too involved in the whole buying process, so I've been going to school to clean up files and organize some things. I know some people would think I'm crazy spending my summer break at school, but I enjoy organizing and like the feeling of being prepared when fall comes around. I felt accomplished yesterday when I left. :)

I still have a long ways to go as you can see from the pictures. It's supposed to feel like over 100 degrees for the next few days, so I might keep cool and keep trudging along.

a slithery visitor...

We had our yearly summertime visitor again! Yesterday I went to do some errands and came home to this friendly visitor at our doorstep. However, he wasn't too friendly for long. Of course I yelled for Kirby to come and get it (he deals with the snakes, frogs, and big spiders around here) and quickly grabbed his "snake catching" gear (broom & garbage bag). We chased it around the house trying to trap it with the broom and luring it into the garbage bag. Finally, Kirby got it in and we walked it over to the waterway to release it. Hopefully we won't see him or his relatives again anytime soon!

HOT! HOT! HOT!

This is what we are feeling here in the south today, yesterday, and more days to come! Kirby and I are trying to stay indoors during the early afternoon hours (playing games or watching movies) and then relax on the beach in the evenings when the vacationers clear out. However, it's still HOT and sticky even then. Last night at 8:30 last night, it still felt like 100 degrees!

A little Rummikub (:

Today we started our first day of Krunch Kids! We stopped at WalMart this morning on the way to get some water and ice packs. The kids were excited to be back and playing with their friends and we were excited to get them active and having some fun!

Are you serious?!

I decided to clean out the refrigerator this afternoon before Kirby and I hit the beach... and this is what I found!

Oh my gosh! That's what I said when I counted 23 expired things in our fridge! I estimated that to be about $40 bucks in wasted money! Can you believe that?

a few updates

This is a random blog with a few updates. We'll start with the biggest news...

#1
Kirby had more x-rays taken and everything looks good! He was even allowed to leave the doctor's office without wearing his sling! We were both very excited about the good news!

The doc says he needs to start doing more exercises too. Below is Kirby doing his "milk jug" exercise. Every day he holds the milk jug down at his side so his elbow is forced to straighten. He has also been TRYING to eat with both hands. He gave it a try at Chic-a-fil, but as you can see it's still a little awkward. He still has pain when lifting his shoulder, so he tends to bend down to his hands a lot. He has to go back again in 3 more weeks for another check up. The doctor says he's healing nicely, so we hope to hear more good news then too.

However, before our visit, he was getting pretty good at doing things with his left hand. In this video, we are eating at one of our favorite restaurants, Logan's. Kirby usually eats around 6 rolls and he wasn't going to let a broken elbow and shoulder get in the way!

#2
A few days ago we were able to spend some time with Kirby's friends from back home. Stacy and Jay were driving through the area on vacation and called to see if they could stop by. We spent a few hours catching up, making ice cream sundaes, and playing games on the Wii. We hope to see them again this year. Kirby and Stacy are trying to plan their 20 year high school reunion for Thanksgiving time.

#3
I couldn't take it anymore and I got a hair cut! I've been wearing it in a ponytail or braid so much lately, I figured I should just cut it off. I researched donations for different organizations, but nothing seemed to work for me (either the length, color wasn't right...). She ended up cutting about 8" off and I left the salon loving it! I came home and Kirby liked it, but I was beginning to doubt whether I still liked it. By the end of the night, I was already planning on going back to the salon the next day to have her change it. Today (a few days later), I think I like it again and probably won't go back. My friend Amy says that's typical of me, so... I guess it's no surprise.

#4

Yesterday Kirby and I wanted to stay indoors during the peak of the day since the "feel like" temperature was going to be in the 100's. We thought it would be perfect to see a matinee movie and then head to the beach around 4:00ish. We decided to see "Get Him to the Greek" at 12:40 (or at least I thought so) so we rushed around the house to get ready and make it out the door in time. We picked something up for Kirby to eat, got our tickets and popcorn in what we thought to be "just in the nick of time". Well I must have misread the time online (no surprise to Kirby) and must have missed the sign outside of the theater too.

As you can see from the pictures, we were a little early. So what do you do when you are a hour early and the only ones in the theater? Of course... take pictures!

We ate, did a little shopping and finally came back at the right time to watch the movie! :)

FINALLY...

SCHOOOLLLS OUT FOR SUMMER!

We are ready to start our summer vacation! We weren't sure how this year was going to turn out for us... Kirby was moved to the middle school (because of the all the cuts) and for the first time we had to work in separate schools. I know some people can't sympathize with us, but we've always worked at the same school with each other since we met. But we adjusted well and I think it made us even closer. Every day the first hour (sometimes longer) after school we'd talk about our days with each other. I looked forward to that every day!
