I'm loving... having time to link up for What I'm Loving Wednesday!

I'm loving... spending time with Kirby.  It's been great to relax and talk about our days with each other.

I'm loving... the new students in my classroom this year!
It's going to be a great year!

I'm loving... the fall-like weather lately.  It's been a wonderful surprise when I walk out the door in the morning!

I'm loving... the surprise dinner Kirby came home with tonight. :)

I'm loving... these vlogs I'm seeing around the blog world (here & her husband here and another one here).
So fun and I want to do one sometime soon.

I'm loving... the 3 day weekend is almost here... yay!

Land Paddling

Recently Kirby found a new way to get an upper-body and core workout while doing something he enjoys.  He's tried stand-up paddleboarding in the ocean and really liked it.  Now he can do the same type of thing on land.
Here's a video of a guy demonstrating it... (start at 2:55 to see him actually start using it)

If you know Kirby, you know he's a do-it-yourself kinda guy.  So tonight, we headed to Lowe's to get some materials to create his own Kahuna Big Stick.

Tada!!!!

Guess who started a college class today?
Mr. King!

He's taking "Research for Today's Schools" online through Coastal Carolina.
He had his first test and assignment due today.
He even studied... and took notes...AND finished all before midnight!

Way to go sweetie!
{proof I'm not lying...he really did study & take notes}

Thanks Irene

North Myrtle Beach fared well through Hurricane Irene.  We had tropical storm winds and some rain with some debris & little damage in our area.  We are thankful!

I didn't sleep at all, so I was up watching the Weather Channel around 5am (and it's still on now) and started taking pictures around 7am.  We hope Irene is nice to the rest of the east coast.  Prayers go out to some of our friends and family who are in the path.

BUNCO!

I took a break from school tonight and substituted for someone in Tina's Bunco group.  It was nice to get my mind off of the never-ending to-do list.  I'm starting to really like this game.  I might try to get a NMBP group together.  Anyone in?

I keep thinking I'll have something more interesting to blog about this weekend, but I really don't think that'll be the case.  School is on both our minds 24/7!  Kirby started taking a college course so he has that going on and of course Hurricane Irene.

The weekend is almost here!

not my idea of good reading

Sadly, I was never able to finish reading the book I started this summer.

I really want to, but I just don't have time for that kind of reading anymore.
I used to read that as I feel asleep in bed, but now it's this book...

Maybe I'll finish it this weekend while Kirby's out surfing!

Zzzz........

I'm probably sleeping as you read this...

I might just want this hurricane to hit us, so I can recuperate from the first week of school.
It's taken an extra amount of energy out of me this year!
I'm not sure why either, because I have a great class!

short & sweet

That's what our posts are going to be like this week.... short & sweet!  I want to continue to post everyday, but don't have much time (especially when I want to post on the class blog).

My brain and body have been going a mile a minute since about 6:00am until right now- when I sat down at the computer at 6:33pm.  It was a great first day of school for us but we sure are tired!
-------------------------
This is what's on Kirby's mind right now...

It looks like we are going to be experiencing our first hurricane?!?!
Of course Kirby's excited about the waves! :)

Twas' the night before the first day of school...

We were able to hang out with Jeanne and Richard tonight.  We ate crabs "Maryland crab style" and caught up on things.  It was nice to relax and get away from the school work for a bit.

We are ready (well not really) and excited (and kinda sad because our summer vacation is over) because school starts tomorrow!  Wish us luck :)

jewelry party

My friend Kristin and her sister had a Premier Jewelry party tonight.
It was so nice to get out of the house and do something other than school work.

This was all the lady's personal jewelry.  She had sooo much!

school school school...

Kirby and I have been working at school from early morning to the evening.  We come home and talk about school for hours (and I'm not exaggerating...at least 2 hours last night).  We are even going to do SCHOOL work this weekend.
It's been all.about.school!
Good thing we love what we do!

I'm excited to do a few "non-school related" things this weekend though.  I'm going to Kristin's jewelry party tonight and on Sunday Kirby and I are going to some friend's for dinner.  I'm looking forward to enjoying some time with friends before the big day Monday.... the first day of school!!

Open House

Tonight we had Open House at school and I was able to meet some of my students!  It was a great night and it made me even more excited for this school year!
Check out our classroom (Surf's Up in 608) blog to meet some of my students.

One of my students from last year, Charlton, stopped by to see me too.

8 is great!

Meet my planning team...
{Tammy, Anna, Sandy, Tina, Janet, Kristin, me, Amanda}

Today was a super productive school day for Kirby and I!  He had to go down to Myrtle Beach for Project Adventure training and I worked in my classroom and planned for the first week of school with my team.  Tomorrow is Open House at our school from 4-6, so I'm excited to meet some of my students!

7 dwarfs

Not much time for an update...I'm exhausted!

Don't worry though (I'm sure you aren't too worried), you aren't missing much with us lately.  We have been at school all day long working on getting things ready for Monday.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Monday FUNday

It's only Monday and I feel like I've been working on school stuff all week already!  It was a long day at school but another productive one!  I was able to cross several things off my to-do-list.  Tomorrow will be another long day, starting with our meeting with the superintendent at NMB High School.  I sent out an email to my students/parents this evening to welcome them back and introduce myself.  I get to meet them on Thursday at Open House and I can't wait!

{Annette, Ball, Crean... headin' to lunch}

game night by candlelight

We had a quiet little storm roll through here and left us without power for about 30 minutes.

So what do you do when the lights go out?
Gather up a few candles and a standby flashlight and play Rummikub!

It's back to school tomorrow.  This time next week I'll be trying to go to bed... but probably won't sleep much...or have crazy school related dreams... because the next day will be the first day back to school for 2011-2012!  Eeeeeek!
Teachers get nervous too ya know?!

20 dollar bill

What can you buy for 20 bucks?
A Kingsford charcoal grill!

Kirby made a deal with our neighbor and got this "like-new" (after Kirby took it all apart and painted it) charcoal grill.  We already have a gas grill and use it pretty frequently, but we recently have been talking about trying a charcoal grill out.  Ironically, this situation popped up and we gave it a try.

Well, after watching a few briquets light slowly, one.. by one... by one, we decided we'd stick with the gas grill.

it feels like Tuesday

Our first week of school is over....phew!  Since we started back on Thursday, today seems like a Tuesday.  Which is kinda nice, because it's actually FRIDAY!  Yesterday, Kirby and I both worked in our classrooms and today we went to some staff developments.  I've got so much school stuff on my brain already, I'll probably dream about it tonight!

So... since I'm on overload (which I may be like this next week too,), I leave you with some pictures of me trying to take a good, self-timer picture before dinner the other night.
I love that my husband accepts my love for taking pictures!

Back to School

So today was the first official day back to school for teachers.
So... yesterday, we did some of this.

However, this was after giving 6 hours worth of surf lessons.
Poor guy was worn-out!!

happiness

Kirby and I had a wonderful anniversary together!
It didn't go exactly as we planned, but it was still perfect.

Our plans were to go to Wild, Water, and Wheels Monday and dinner Tuesday. We drove all the way to Wild, Water, and Wheels, but didn't go into the park because they were getting ready to close in about an hour (three hours sooner than we thought).  So once we got back home, we headed to the beach for a bit and then had dinner at Miyabi.

Yesterday was our official anniversary...Yay!
Kirby started the day by making me breakfast in bed.  We hung out and relaxed throughout the afternoon and then went to dinner at Carrabba's.  ...Another great dinner!

The big 0-3

Yes, you read that right...
Today we are celebrating the big 3rd anniversary!
On August 9, 2008 we became Mr. and Mrs. Kirby King.

Kirby is the first person I go to when I'm sad, excited, nervous, scared, frustrated... when I want to vent, cry, scream, laugh.
I've learned so much about myself because of him.
He's been my rock through some of the hardest times in my life and he's been a part of some of the best memories I'll ever have.

The past 3 years have been the beginning of my fairytale and answers to my prayers.

I love you sweetie and I look forward to what the future has in store for us.

 {Our first dance as husband and wife was to this song... I never knew it was written for her dog.  Too funny!}

Mr. Turtle

Kirby is trying to get into the turtle saving business. He's saved 2 turtles in the middle of the road lately but this one was pretty feisty... I guess he didn't want any help crossing the road.

get me out of here!

I was able to get Kirby to go shopping today!
Like most guys, he doesn't like shopping.
Can you tell?.. it made his hair stand up straight!

He goes a few times a year and gets anything he needs from just a few stores.  He bought himself a big pile of new school clothes today and I probably won't get him to go shopping again until next year.... seriously.  I soaked it all up and enjoyed it while I could today :)  This weekend was tax-free weekend too, so that made shopping even more exciting!

I'm not sure what came over him, but he even cleaned out his closet when we got home!  Now he has some new clothes, old clothes to take to Goodwill, and an organized closet!

This time 3 years ago

Around this time 3 years ago, our friends and family were coming into town to celebrate our wedding day.  Since almost all of our guests were out of town, we had all the pre-wedding festivities during the few days before the wedding.  Here is a glimpse back to those days.
