Christmas 2012

Kirby and I couldn't wait to start celebrating the holidays with our boy this year!  Even though it was his first, we wanted to start some traditions and be sure to make it special (of course he wouldn't know otherwise, but he'll be able to look back at pictures... and that'll say a lot, right?).

Here is a picture story of Kaden's first Christmas Eve-

lots of playing and relaxing with Mama and Dad

poor boy wasn't himself at all... at the time, we weren't sure exactly what was wrong, but we thought it could have been a tooth coming in (we were right... more on that later)

yet... still smiled through the pain :)

enjoying some water... or just the rubber top

Dad making a pizza- A King family tradition

our big boy helping to make cookies for Santa

finding out where Santa was before going to sleep

setting out the cookies he helped make and some milk for Santa

Mama and Dad peeked after Santa left.... only to find out that a certain baby must have been pretty good!

getting pretty tired... or maybe the clothes Santa brought him were too boring... who knows?!

Yay!!!... Santa and Richard the Elf ate the cookies!

a little play time before nap

after a nap, we started a second round of presents

Santa couldn't fit one of Kaden's gifts on his sleigh, so it's being delivered this week- Porsche Carrera GT ride-on car that's also remote control.  The Hot Wheels car was a warm-up for the big one.

the rest of the afternoon, we played with the new gifts Santa brought

Some good ol' fun with finger paint!

I think it was a hit!
It's going to look great hanging in our home!

Kaden's pajama day

Our little man had Pajama Day at school last Tuesday!  I was super excited and was sure to get some pictures before I headed to my own school for the day.

We look forward to more fun days at First Baptist Child Development Center!

*gasp* non-baby post

This might just be the first post, not about Kaden, I've done in 6 months!  We pretty much walk, talk, breath, everything Kaden (and love it!), but there has been a few holiday occasions lately that we went babyless.

This was a Christmas cookie exchange and hat decorating contest party a co-worker had right before school got out for break.  It was nice to get together, eat, and laugh with friends.

My planning team (9 of the 16 first grade teachers) decided to do a "12 days of Christmas" secret Santa this year.  We had a great time spoiling each other for the 12 days before Christmas break and ended the fun at Sweet Frog, where we announced our secret Santas.  Thanks Susan for all my goodies!

That same evening, Kirby and I enjoyed our first "date" since Kaden was born for his school's Christmas party.  One of my good friends, Jeanna, came over and watched Kaden for a few hours while we went out.  It was our first time leaving him at home with a babysitter too, so needless to say... we didn't stay out too late.

6 months- really?!

health
We've been through a few colds this month... and the doctor confirmed his first ear infection last Friday too.  He's been on medicine since then and thankfully, it seems to be helping.

sleep
At the beginning of the month, he slept a 9 hour stretch!  I didn't hold my breath though... the following week straight, he slept less and less every night.  Now he's sleeping anywhere from 4-6 hour stretches... waking up about once a night.  He's not sleeping through the night, but it could be worse.  Plus... secretly, I like the extra cuddle time with him (especially since we don't get to see him much during the week because of school).
(a new "toy" Kaden found in his crib.... it will soon be moved)

Still not sleeping much at daycare- nothing new.  I'm still frustrated with it too because he comes home pretty much ready for bed by 5:00.  Hardly any time to feed him solids, play, or bathe.  And I'm not sure if it's related to going to sleep so early, but he's been waking up between 4-5 ready to start his day... and by that I mean, "talking" and squealing in his crib until we come and get him.

sizes
He's all over the board... 3 month pants, 6 month onesies and shirts, 9 month jammies.  Still in size 2 diapers and looks like he will be for awhile too.

diet
He's drinking 4-6 bottles a day.  He usually eats banana oatmeal for breakfast and then a vegetable for lunch at daycare.  Sometimes, if he's not too tired when he gets home, he'll eat another vegetable for dinner.

Most of this month, he was still on breast milk.  But just a few days ago, I started transitioning to using formula.  He's done well and doesn't even seem to notice or care.  I've made it 6 months of breastfeeding and that was my goal.  I'm proud of that.

meeting more family

Last weekend, my family came into town.  We hadn't seen my one brother, Adam, or mom and dad for 4 years so it was filled with lots of emotion.   My other brother, Alex, met Kaden back in August, but this was the first time Kaden met his Grandma and Grandpa Hosner and Uncle Adam.  He won them over with his smiles and giggles and stole all their hearts.  It was a nice weekend of relaxing and loving up on the star of the show!

Yep.  Now it's picture overload.  Watch out!

Walking in the door...meeting everyone for the first time.
