bottle free- July 5

As of July 5, Kaden has been bottle free!  Now I hope I haven't spoken too soon though.

If you don't want the details... skip to the bottom.
-------------------

Our old bedtime routine (like since the day he was born) consisted of bath (most nights), bottle, and then bed.  It was like clockwork.  Actually... after bath, he'd always look on the nightstand to see if the bottle was there.  A few weeks ago, I had to actually start hiding the bottle because he would cry while I put on his diaper and jammies because he wanted it so badly.

Well... a few nights ago, I didn't have the bottle ready after bath yet.  (At this point, we had weened him from all bottles during the day, but he was still taking the last bottle before bed).  So I thought.... what the heck... let's try to put him to bed without a bottle.  He cried for the bottle as I put his jammies on and then cried some more when he realized there wasn't a bottle for him as we sat down in the rocking chair.  We read a book... all the while he was turning his head, trying to figure out where is that stinkin' bottle?  After the book, I put him in his bed and he cried, cried, cried.  He cried for about 30 minutes total the first night and after comforting him several times, he finally crashed.  Poor guy... I felt so bad.  He wanted that bottle!  But I knew it was just a comfort thing because we had weened him down to only 3 ounces of milk at that point.

Two nights ago, we tried keeping him up a little later so he was good and tired.  So we took him to the beach.  On our way home, he fell asleep, so that made the transition to bed easier.  He was O-U-T- out!  Last night, we did our new bedtime routine (bath, book, bed), and with only one quick cry he was down for the count.

So to make a long story short- I think we have a bottle free baby toddler!  Talk about growing up fast!  The kid is practically running around the house, drinking out of sippy cups, and saying new words all the time!

Like all bloggers say... no post is good without a photo, so here are a couple (that have no relevance to this post).

Happy 4th

This 4th of July was nothing like so many Kirby and I have had in the past (2009, 2010, 2011).  It wasn't anything like last year (here) either.  This year we were able to have some fun celebrating together as a family of 3!

I'll let the pictures tell the stories.  Lord knows there's a lot of them, right?

(note: trash can  He's obsessed.)

summer fun

Another "catch up" type post.  I just can't keep up with blogging.  But I don't want to stop completely.  This is our boy's baby book, so I want to be sure I keep documenting... even if it is the past 2 weeks in one post.

--------------------------------------------------------
On Main Street, in North Myrtle Beach, there is a fair/carnival set up during the summer.  We rode the golf cart there once so far and Kaden loved it, so we are sure to be stopping again this summer.

We took a trip on a gloomy, going-to-rain-any-minute day to pick blueberries and see the animals at Indigo Farms.  We picked just enough blueberries to make our pancakes and muffins before it started to rain.  We quickly explored the animals and then headed out.

What do you do when it rains for 12 days straight?  Go boating in the neighbor's yard!

Since it was still raining the next day, we played "tourist" and went to the aquarium.  Kaden had a good time, but what he liked even more than anything were the trash cans.  He's all about trash cans lately.  He points to every trashcan we see... no matter where we are... and says "tash caa".
See picture below.

We got caught in some rain on the way home from Walmart one day on the golf cart, so since we were already wet, the boys played around a bit in the rain.

There are the days when we just hang out though...
I sure do love the fact that we are both teachers and are able to do so much together as a family.

1 year check-up

Stats:

Weight- 21.1 lbs (40%)

Length- 31" (85%)

Head Circumference- 47.7 cm (85%)

Our boy is happy and healthy and developing right along as he should be.  We were very happy to get the good news.  We started the appointment off with what used to be the "easy part"... but has turned into something he's not too fond of- weight, height, and head circumference.

Once we finally got him settled down, the nurse had to draw blood for an iron test.... which he wasn't happy about either.  It seemed like forever too!  She did give him his first band-aid though :/  It looked so cute on his little finger!

Then we asked a few questions to the doctor... dry patch of skin on the back of his knee, still eating the jarred baby food of vegetables)...  and finally ended the appointment with 2 shots.  Which again... he wasn't happy about.

Oh... and he still has an ear infection.  :/  So she put him on another kind of medication to see if it clears up.  We might have to start talking about tubes.  We aren't too sure about the idea.  If anyone has thoughts or stories you can share that would be great.

day 3 of birthday with the family

We are so thankful some of our family could be here to celebrate Kaden's first year of life with us.  It took some time (which we didn't have enough of), but Kaden finally started warming up to the new faces towards the end of the visit.  Hopefully we'll get to see everyone again soon!

Farewell breakfast with Aunt Shelley and cousins, Josh & Kailee

Pool time with Momma's side of the family

He might have been born on one day... but we celebrated the whole weekend!
