bottle free- July 5

As of July 5, Kaden has been bottle free!  Now I hope I haven't spoken too soon though.

If you don't want the details... skip to the bottom.
-------------------

Our old bedtime routine (like since the day he was born) consisted of bath (most nights), bottle, and then bed.  It was like clockwork.  Actually... after bath, he'd always look on the nightstand to see if the bottle was there.  A few weeks ago, I had to actually start hiding the bottle because he would cry while I put on his diaper and jammies because he wanted it so badly.

Well... a few nights ago, I didn't have the bottle ready after bath yet.  (At this point, we had weened him from all bottles during the day, but he was still taking the last bottle before bed).  So I thought.... what the heck... let's try to put him to bed without a bottle.  He cried for the bottle as I put his jammies on and then cried some more when he realized there wasn't a bottle for him as we sat down in the rocking chair.  We read a book... all the while he was turning his head, trying to figure out where is that stinkin' bottle?  After the book, I put him in his bed and he cried, cried, cried.  He cried for about 30 minutes total the first night and after comforting him several times, he finally crashed.  Poor guy... I felt so bad.  He wanted that bottle!  But I knew it was just a comfort thing because we had weened him down to only 3 ounces of milk at that point.

Two nights ago, we tried keeping him up a little later so he was good and tired.  So we took him to the beach.  On our way home, he fell asleep, so that made the transition to bed easier.  He was O-U-T- out!  Last night, we did our new bedtime routine (bath, book, bed), and with only one quick cry he was down for the count.

So to make a long story short- I think we have a bottle free baby toddler!  Talk about growing up fast!  The kid is practically running around the house, drinking out of sippy cups, and saying new words all the time!

Like all bloggers say... no post is good without a photo, so here are a couple (that have no relevance to this post).

Good job!! We are still doing 2 bottles a day - 8 oz in the morning and 8 oz before bed. They are both definitely "comfort" things for Cam, so we have to figure out how to ween them away!! I like the idea of lowering the AMOUNT he gets. What do you feed first thing in the morning? One of my favorite moments of the day is Cam drinking his bottle while lying on my chest on the couch while we both wake up! I think I might need to be weened from this, too!! Haha xoxo
