Meet the Teacher

I wanted to do this last night, but wasn't feeling very well.  So tonight, I'm going to link up to another teacher's blog (the first grade parade) for "Meet the Teacher".  I've been following more teaching blogs lately and love finding great ideas!  Our blog is not geared towards teaching, but I have recently thought about starting a separate teaching blog.

I grew up in Canton, Ohio and went to school at the University of Toledo.  Kirby grew up in Friendsville, Maryland and graduated from Towson University.  We met teaching at Harford Hills Elementary School in Parkville, Maryland.  We moved down south to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and both got a teaching job at North Myrtle Beach Primary School.  We got married in August of 2008 on the beach near our home.  We do not have children yet, but we plan on trying to start our family in August...and I can't wait!

I am a first grade teacher at the primary school and Kirby currently teaches PE at the middle school.  I have been teaching 6 years- 2 in 3rd grade, 1 year of reading intervention, and 3 years in first grade. This is Kirby's 13th year of teaching PE.  We both love our jobs!

Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t a teacher?
A: I would like to be a photographer or wedding planner if I wasn't a teacher.  I'm not a professional at either though...just something I enjoy.

Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Recently blogging has been my hobby.  And with my new camera, I am getting into photography.

Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: Honestly, I've ALWAYS wanted to be a teacher.  My grade school was set on fire when I was younger and a lot of things were smoke damaged.  They gave away many books, desks, supplies...tons of "teacher things", and so my parents got a bunch of stuff for me.  I had the best "pretend school" setup on the block!  I forced my brothers and their friends to play school with me all the time.

Q: What are your guilty pleasures?
A:  Jersey Shore. Teen Mom. Mexico Lindo. Anything peanut butter. Fountain soda.

Q: What is your biggest fear?!
A: Ultimately, being alone.  Thunderstorms & scary movies also come to mind.

Q: When you’re on vacation, where do you like to go?
A: Well, since moving to NMB, we feel like we are on vacation all summer long!  We love where we live!

Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
A: Be myself & don't worry about what other people think.

Q: What do you value most in others?
A: Selflessness

Q: If you could choose one of your personality traits to pass down to your kids, what would it be?
A: Sensitivity.  Maybe not all my sensitivity, but some of it.  It's good to cry every once in awhile... or once a week. ;)

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone in the world….living or dead…who would it be?
A: I would like to eat lunch with Kirby's dad.  I was only able to meet him as he laid in the hospital before he died.  I have heard so many good stories about him.  I would love the chance to sit and eat lunch with him at Little Sandy's.

Now tell us one random thing about yourself:
I am adopted by my mom and recently just met my birth mother.  That's a whole 'nother post for a whole 'nother day though...
